Event Information
Day 1 – Friday 14th April: NZ Sprint Distance Championship, Taylor River South .
The terrain: Riverbed with adjoining Olive grove and sawdust pit with scattered vegetation. Rough open and a collection of buildings and structures comprising an historical park. Undulating with climb less than 5 metres.
Scale/contours: Scale 1:5000, with 5 metre contour intervals.

Estimated winning times: 12 – 15 minutes.
Start times: From 1:30 pm.
Travel Time : Five minutes from Blenheim city centre.
Directions: Take Maxwell Street towards the hospital and follow the Orienteering signs.

Day 2 – Saturday 15th April: NZ Long Distance Championship, Canaan Downs.
The map: A new map of open native forest and rolling farmland with large to very large depressions and rock formations. Unique and challenging terrain.
Scales/contours: Scales 1:15000 (courses 1 and 2), 1:10000 and 1:7500, with 5 metre contour intervals.

Course lengths: Based on an estimated winning time of 105 minutes for course 1.
Start times: From 10:30 am.
Travel Time: Approximately 90 minutes from Nelson.
Directions: Drive towards the top of the Takaka Hill on Highway 60. Take the turnoff to Harwoods Hole near the top of the Takaka Hill, there will be Orienteering signs approximately 1 km and 500 metres before this turnoff. Drive approximately 10 kms down the gravel road to the start.

Day 3 – Sunday 16th April: NZ Middle Distance Championship, The Big Rabbit.
The map: Intricate sand dunes in an open pine forest. First used for the NZ Secondary School Champs 2003 and South Island Champs 2004
Scales/contours: Scales 1:10000 and 1:7500, with 2.5 metre contour intervals.

Course lengths: M21E and W21E estimated winning time 30 minutes; EWT for other classes based on 60% of single day times.
Start times: From 10:30 am.
Travel Time: Approximately 25 minutes from Nelson city centre.
Directions: From Highway 6 turn onto Highway 60 at Richmond travel approximately 7 km towards Motueka. Follow signposts to Rabbit Island, look for Orienteering signs.
The terrain: Rough open with scattered vegetation, tracked areas with some exotic plantings. Erosion gullies and man made features. Includes urban boundary and park areas. Classic dry Marlborough hill country. Climb of up to 200 metres.

Planners: Mondo Kopua and Barry Hope (MOC). Controller: Gillian Ingham.
Start time: 10:00 am.
Travel Time: Ninety minutes from Nelson, five minutues from Blenheim.
Directions: From Blenheim city centre, take Maxwell Road towards hospital, turn left into Wither Road and follow Orienteering signs to Harling Park into lower Wither Hills.
Note: Intending competitors should lodge individual entries. Clubs will organise
their teams.

Age classes:
Competitors aged 20 or younger are eligible to run in each class
up to the end of the calendar year in which they reach the given age. They are
entitled to compete in older classes up to and including 21.
Competitors aged 21 or older are eligible to run in each class from the beginning
of the calendar year in which they reach the designated age. They are entitled
to compete in younger class down to and including 21.

Note: Leg eligibility will be determined by your age class.
SportIdent: Electronic punching will be provided for all events. If you own a SportIdent e-card, please ensure that you enter its number on the entry form. E-cards will be available for purchase or hire at the event. Please state your requirements on the entry form. E-cards are not transferable to another person during the championship.
Start time requests: Classes are block started. If you have a special start time request, because of child care requirements, please tell us on the entry form.
Creche facilities: An unsupervised area will be provided for parents of young children to arrange their own co-operative child minding.
Late entries and changes: Entries received after the closing date of 24th March 2006 will be accepted only at the discretion of the organising committee, as will requests for changes in classes. A charge of $10 per person/day will apply in each case.

Social event: A BBQ style dinner will precede the prize-giving on Sunday evening, to be held at the Saxton Field Pavilion, Stoke, Nelson. Assemble from 5:30 pm, prize-giving 7:30 pm. Please book on your entry form. Adults $20, Children (12 and under) $10. Vegetarian available.
Programme and results: Printed copies of the programme and results will be available at $5 a set. Alternatively, these will be available for download from the website – . Event information and start draws will be available around 30 March 2006.
T – shirts: T-shirts will be available in black with the event logo on the sleeve and back (note text and lines will be white). Please order on the entry form.

A junior is anyone eligible to compete in M20 / W20 or younger classes. A family is up to two seniors living at the same address and any number of juniors that look to at least one of the seniors as a parent.
One event registration: Competitors who are not members of a NZ Club or an IOF member organisation must pay, with their entry, a one-event registration fee of $9.00 per senior, $5.50 per junior, or $23.50 per family, for each day of competition.
