Scoring System
In principle competitors will count their best 80% of results. The actual number will be chosen from year to year, and for the 2006 series competitors will drop the worst 5 out of 23.
The points scale is related to placing. The scale needs to relate to typical field sizes and will therefore be a compromise between men and women. For 2007 it is 15, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 for all other finishers. Fine print: in the case of a tie both competitors get the higher points.
There are no bonus points for event "importance", field size, closeness to the winner's time, or "insurance points". Every event has equal weight.
In the event of one or more events being declared invalid, the 80% principle will be invoked to determine how many of the reduced number of events will count. For all likely scenarios in 2006 this means that competitors will still drop their worst three results.
Regional Competition
There will be a concurrent regional competition, based on points of the top-scoring 6 athletes of either gender from each region in each race. Regional points are not be the same as individual points. For men, points will be 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. There will be no regional points after 15th place. For women, points will be 15, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 3, 1. There will be no regional points after 8th place. The different scales reflect the different numbers of men and women at this time.
The regions for this purpose will be Auckland (Northern Knights), Wellington (Central Magic), and South Island (Southerly Storm). The divide between Auckland and Wellington will be an E/W line through the middle of Lake Taupo.
Regional membership is governed by the club that you belong to on the day of your first event in the current series. But if you change club at any time (and particularly at the start of the calendar year) you can declare that in writing or email to the Superseries Manager up to 7 days before the event, and be recognised thereafter in your new region. No advice, and you are deemed to be in your old region. (Fine print: if you belong to more than one club, one of them is your "primary" club which counts you for NZOF purposes, and you must enter under that club unless you have a release, just like the NZ Relay Champs.)
Relays may form part of the regional competition. For the "2-men, 1-woman" format the points scale is three times the womens scale above, that is, 45, 39, 33, 27, 21, 15, 9, 3. There will be no regional points after 8th place. The best two teams per region will count for points, but other teams may contribute by pushing down the scores of those they beat.
Eligibility
All entrants in M and W21E classes who are members of NZ clubs are automatically eligible. Non-members including visiting orienteers from other countries are ignored in the points calculations.
JuniorSeries
A JuniorSeries is run on the M and W-20 classes and competitors, that are juniors in 2007 count. In 2007 the JuniorSeries will be run on the same rounds as the SuperSeries excluding the Nationals(to keep competition for National titles in agegroups intact). The relay in the Waitangi Weekend round will not be part of the JuniorSeries and juniors are encouraged to make themselves available for teams in the Superseries.

For Women: 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 for all other finishers. Fine print: in the case of a tie both competitors get the higher points.

As for the senior series all entrants in M/W-20A who qualify by age in 2007 and who are members of NZ clubs, are automatically eligible. Junior results could be included in the regional competition in the future.
Problem Resolution
Any problems to do with the events will be handled by the normal complaint-protest procedure of the NZOF Competition Rules. Anything solely to do with the series will be handled in a similar way, with a "complaint" in the first instance to the series manager, and anyone unhappy with the outcome able to take it to the NZOF General Manager.
